ASTC RAP: August 11, 2005
Physics-the Simplest of the Sciences
Utah Science Center, Salt Lake City, Utah
Physics is the most basic of the sciences. As Richard Feynmann said:
"The object of the game (of Physics) is to learn the rules of the
game".
Physics educators come together regularly via the American
Association of Physics Teachers (www.aapt.org). This RAP immediately
follows their Summer, 2005 meeting, August 6-10, in Salt Lake City,
Utah. There is no formal connection between the AAPT meeting and the
RAP-just proximity and connection!
The Utah Science Center, a new 'third generation' science center,
opening in 2007, will host this RAP on Thursday, August 11, 2005
from 9 am - 3 pm at the University of Utah,
Dept. of Bioengineering. There is no charge or registration fee.
AAPT is a major professional organization composed mainly of high
school and college physics and physical science teachers. RAP
participants should attend and participate in the AAPT meeting --
see http://www.aapt.org/Events/SM05/index.cfm
Early bird (discounted) registration for the AAPT meeting ends on June 2.
Those participating in the AAPT meeting may wish to enter the Apparatus
Competition sponsored by AAPT and Pasco - see
http://www.aapt.org/Contests/apparatus.cfm
Submission deadline for the Apparatus Competition is June 1, 2005
The RAP will focus on highly interactive exhibits and experiences
which help lead to a fundamental understanding and appreciation of
"...the rules of the game." Examples from the Utah Science Center's
traveling science center program (www.theleonardo.org/onwheels) will
be available to experience and to critique.
If you'd like to make a presentation/demo or lead a discussion at the
RAP -or just attend and participate -- contact:
Joe Andrade, Director, 801/ 581-4379
