The American Medical Association published a series of books titled
Nostrums and Quackery that does have the breakdown of the contents of some
patent medicines. You might also want to look at The Toadstool
Millionaires: A Social History of Patent Medicines in America before
Federal Regulations by James Harvey Young. Some of the patent medicines
became regularly listed in The National Formulary published at various
dates. These give the formulas for producing these medicines.
