At a minimum, it is a common point of contact with our publics. On the
other end of the spectrum, Jerry Bruckheimer (CSI, Pirates of the
Caribbean) is doing Public Archaeology outreach and we should be paying
attention --and be grateful.
Oh, and by the way, for those of you who laughed at my suggestion that
archaeologists contact Dark Horse Comics, the San Diego Comic Convention in 2005
registered 104,000 attendees. The one that happened in July 2006 probably
topped 110,000. Movie moguls, television executives... and yes, Jerry Bruckheimer,
were all there listening to what people think, want, and getting feedback on
the hot shows. I recommend a delegation attend the next one to meet with
these people and encourage them to incorporate our values, themes, and expertise
into their artwork, action, and production.
