Thank you all for your information about stoneware bird whistles.  I should
have given a little more background information in my original posting -- I
was interested in the distribution of toy whistles made in the form of
birds (or other figures) that might have been found in archaeological
collections and I was also interested in their decorations.  The question
was not about a specific artifact but is part of a long-term research
interest in stonewares.

For the record, I have never found a stoneware bird whistle in any of the
collections I have looked at from the Northeast.  ( I did, however, find a
painted pearlware one from a site in Philadelphia.)
