This is really interesting, especially since, in my humble opinion, the
Persian Painted Ware really looks nothing like what actually was being
produced in the Ottoman Empire - either in the 19th century, or earlier in
it's so-called "Classical Age." Rather it represents a [vague] "feel" for
these wares. Likewise, it's interesting to see that at the same time,
potters in Ottoman Empire were producing what they thought had the "feel"
of English & French wares - with just as surprising results!
Not surprisingly, I did find a few odd pieces of European imports on an
Ottoman period site I worked in Turkey... Now, if anyone is finding
Ottoman ceramics on their sites in North America, by all means, let me
know! :^)
