I have the Fischer-Dieskau/Brendel recording of Winterreise from the
7/1985, Berlin recording on Philips (411 463-2), which is melancholy and
expressive enough to capture the dark forces of the Northern Romantic
landscape of emotions embodied in this transcendent Song Cycle by Schubert
the Great.

From the enormous discography already listed of Winterreise, it's
reassuring to know other members of the List are willing to engage in the
"Twenty-Four Stages on a Journey Into The Void," as eloquently tone-painted
for voice and piano by Schubert.
