Wesleyan University department of anthropology invites applications for
a tenure-track position in historical archaeology, broadly defined as
the archaeology of the development of the modern world, the rise of
capitalism, and the effects of European colonization. We seek a
candidate with a strong background in social theory and anthropological
archaeology, and with an active, ongoing research program. Area of
concentration open, with a preference for North America. Research
interests will ideally complement those of other members of the
department, and might include colonial encounters; class, race and
ethnicity; diasporas; gender; urban centers; industrialization; or
landscapes. The successful candidate will also have a strong commitment
to undergraduate teaching and interest in interdisciplinary
scholarship. We are particularly interested in candidates desiring
involvement in Wesleyan’s interdisciplinary Archaeology Program,
including its on-campus excavation project and the Archaeology and
Anthropology Collections. PhD in hand or near completion at time of
appointment required. Applicants should submit a letter outlining
research and teaching interests, a writing sample, current cv, and
