Mike asked about Richard Taylor's bee stock.
Richard was an important friend. He occasionally purchased queens, but
mostly relied on 'walk-away splits', and on supercedure. In many regards I
think he developed his own little mini-strain that was well-adapted to the
Taylor system of managing bees. That was largely devoted to production of
comb honey.
Varroa took Richard out of beekeeping. These pests, coupled with his age,
took all of the joy out of his beekeeping.
