ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers
Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions.

Please respond to the list, rather than privately, with your response to
Marcelo Knobel's question about virtual reality exhibits. This is a topic in
which many museums are interested. I post below a presentation at the most
recent meeting of the American Association of Museums on the topic.

The Name of the Game: Engaging Visitors through Multi-User Virtual
Environment
The emerging technologies of multi-user virtual environments and gaming have
exciting potential for application to museum education, outreach, and exhibit
design. This session will demonstrate how these technologies can enable
visitors to interact on-line with one another, as well as content experts, while
simultaneously exploring simulated museum environments; participate, observe, and
learn from group interventions and alterations to virtual environments; and
experience virtual museum objects placed within immersive narrative context.
Evaluation data will be shared and recommendations made to identify ways in
which educational goals may be better supported by these innovative technologies
