Norman Shakle, a very young and very talented singer from the SF Opera
Center, will perform Britten's `Serenade,' a grand work and a kind of
ultimate test for tenors (and the horn player, but that's David Krehbiel
here, the performance is already in the bag).

The concert, by the New Century Chamber Orchestra, also features a world
premiere by one of my candidates for leading composers of the next century:
Kurt Rohde's `Minerva's Pools' is a string nonet (not a no-no-nonette),
commissioned by the Koussevitsky and Fromm foundations.  The Bach
Brandenburg #3 and Elgar's Serenade for Strings complete the program.
