My complete agreement with Richard Todd's take on the quality of
Connoisseur Society recordings. Started in the 1960s, this label has
consistently produced some of the finest piano recordings ever, and its CD
reissues stand the test of time artistically as well as sonically. Their
LPs featuring Ivan Moravec surely helped put this magnificent artist on the
world map, and every aspect of their production was first rate, including
the most stunning black and white covers, with photos by Lucien Clergue,
another 20th century master. In addition to piano, they also made some
incredible recordings of ragas with Ali Akhbar Khan, undoubtedly the
world's greatest sarod player. Alas, late in the LP area, the state of LP
pressings in the US had reached the abyss and CS also suffered. But this
need not trouble anyone who discovers their CD releases, some of which have
appeared onI (e.g., Moravec Beethoven)

For lovers of the awesome power of an unleashed concert grand, there is
much treasure to be mined here, in performance and sound.

Eric
