Hi:
I had a similar problem. Lasted eight years through two kids. Had it
ultrasounded 2x. Dr. felt it was harmless- one called it a dilated duct. Dr would
not try needle aspiration, felt it contained solid like material that could not
be removed by a needle. He wanted to do surgery at the hospital and I didn't
want to for various reasons. Another said to leave it alone. I chose to
leave it alone. It opened one day (years post weaning) and dischange was like
thick milk, like plugged duct discharge I had in past. For a while I noticed a
depression in that part of the nipple but eventually sort of reshaped. I did
have pain with mine during nursing if the little one was not far enough back
and after weaning if I brushed up against something. In hindsight, I wish I
would have had it taken care of sooner. No pain now.

Subject: galactocele?
Hello,
I have mom's permission to post. Mom is breastfeeding a 9-month old and ha=
s=20
been breastfeeding for 2.5 years (she tandem nursed her 2.5 yr old).=A0 Abou=
t=A07=20
or 8=A0months ago she had a plugged duct on the nipple=A0that was very
painf=
ul=20
-She switched bras and nursing positions, and it went away. About 3-4 months=
ago=20
she noticed a small lump in the same place.=A0 It is not painful and there i=
s=20
no warmth in the breast etc. She left it alone and assumed it would go
away=20
with breastfeeding (It is on her daughter's "favorite" side). It is
now=20=
about=20
the size of a small pea. She can still nurse on this side. If she presse=
s=20
on the lump, there is no pain and nothing is expressed. Is this a=20
galactocele? I am suggesting that mom go to the doctor, but wanted the opi=
nion of the=20
collective as well.
Thanks.
Aloha,
Gloria Thai
