Personally, I prefer a large flat area that can be mowed. Even if it's a hay
field, it will look like a lawn after a season of close mowing.

It should be large enough to be able to pull your truck in and allow you to
have hives on either side of the truck, so the hives are always close to the
truck bed. Less walking is a good thing, and the flatter the better to avoid
tripping and sprained ankles.

I wouldn't care for bare dirt, as it is apt to get muddy. Pavement would
probably get very hot, but you would be able to use a hand truck there !
