A good reference on some of the setbacks from this demo can be found in a
paper by Jearl Walker on the Leidenfrost Effect (yet another fun science
effect I can thank my science center career for!)

He gets into the LN2 stuff towards the end and reports a cracked tooth.
As for other foods, try cheese puff balls (is there nothing they aren't good
for?) They are nice and lightweight and airy and make a good puff of
condensed water vapor. We used those when we modified our LN2 show for a
Superhero Science weekend and tied that into the Iceman/Rogue kiss from the
Xmen movie. Also whipped cream is fun too. For the demo. (But be
forewarned that if you are too close to the LN2 the can gets so cold that
the compressed gas loses pressure and the cream doesn't come out well. I
learned that the hard way during a TV spot once)
I also agree about handing out food. It can be risky and of all the number
of things a visitor can be exposed to or consume during a day, they will
remember the LN2 cracker more than anything.
One thing I've never done but want to some day (and if anyone has tried this
or will try this let me know!) But I want to freeze a bunch of Ring Dings at
a hockey rink and shoot them at a goalie.
Yeah, I love liquid nitrogen!

Glen,
I do love learning new things. That is the best bonus of this work. I
am not sure why the Graham cracker is chosen for the demo over others.
Perhaps it is porous, but keeps its shape when soaked. (a very good
cracker for dipping in milk). Perhaps a baby teething cracker would
have similar characteristics?

"Thanks, Kyle!!
I have been educated this week about something I knew nothing
about, last week - sounds suitable for a Vegemite spread but I
feel the need to find something similar for the n2 demo.
(BTW Have to admit that I hate vegemite even though it is Aussie
traditional <smile>)
best regards
Glen
