I have seen signs at some popular exhibits at a variety of museums
(especially the game-like exhibits) that say some version of "Please
limit your time at this exhibit to N minutes when others are waiting,"
where N is some small positive integer. I always found that to be a
very reasonable request. My personal patience with lines maxes out at a
wait:experience ratio of about 5:1. I wonder if anyone has studied the
question of how long people will happily wait.

We have some very popular exhibits,- something not unheard of
in science centers-and visitors are often unaware (it seems) of lines
of visitors waiting behind them.
Have you developed a strategy-a label, perhaps?- that you
have found to be sucessful-or at least useful-to suggest that
visitors be aware of people waiting to use the exhibit?
