Don Satz is taking a poll about the popularity of Toscannini as conductor:

Accept for very few items beyond his early opera conducting (the NBC
symphony Beethoven Ninth comes to mind) I believe he was a somewhat over
rated conductor. The generally poor recordings by which his modern work
was represented does not help the cause at all! My judgement remains open
on the matter.
