It is Eastern U.S. arrogance and ignorance that persists in the Ro-DAY-o
pronunciation. It is akin to speaking of Ne-VAH-duh or PAH-ti-o. Ro-DAY-o
is the perfect pronunciation for Pretensionville, just as flautist is the
word of choice of the ignorant, who know not it was long antedated by
flutist, but briefly overcome their sense of nothingness by conspicuous
fondling of the affectation.
Is it time to reprint the New Yorker's map of the U.S.?
