The Shostakovich Chamber Symphony, op. 110a, is in fact a transcription
of his quartet #8.  IIRC one of the Barshai's did it, and the composer
authorized it.  Both the quartet and the symphony use a tune that DSCH had
used in the trio.  This tune, reputedly of Jewish provenance, always sounds
weird to me without the piano's clanging away.
