Ed Zubrow asks for recommendations from the Berkshire Record Outlet
catalogue:
>Brandenburg Concertos with Rillig and Oregon Bach Festival on Hanssler.
'Twas *RILLING* and the slithey toves, uh, where was I? Oh, yes. I do
not find Rilling dull at all, so toss a coin in the air and take a chance.
Haven't heard his Brandenbergs, but I like the cantata BWV 207a uses a
choral version of a movement of a Brandenberg. Not shabby at all. In
fact, I recommend that cd. It has the Peasant Cantata as well ... earthy
Bach. Haenssler 98.163. Berkshire also offers a good Coffee Cantata.
I'm enjoying it right now. Haenssler 98.161.
Some of those Haenssler cds feature Thomas Quasthoff and other fine
performers doing cantatas and little known masses.
I tend to feel urgency to buy when a cd has hit Berkshire. Too often, when
it disappears from Berkshire, it's gone forever. I am still castigating
myself for being too conservative and missing some wonderful bargains and
some stunning performances.
Go for it.
