Ah, yes, but the burnt torn newspaper puts a lot of soot into the bottle - messy for cleanup and makes attempting to get the egg out of the bottle really disgusting. The candles keep things nice &
clean (and you get get really stupid about it and have the audience sing "Happy Birthday" as you light the candles with a blowtorch...). The things we do to keep an audience engaged...
