  Many years ago, when I first had bees, my father discussed this phenomenon
with me.  The way he put it was to try to  "think the way the bee thinks".
Simply, bees always collect nectar form the FIRST they find when they go out
to forage.

   If your goldenrod is nearest the hive, that is what they will collect
etc.

  (By the way I like goldenrod honey, when not mixed with other weeds.  Also
buckwheat honey is very, dark , rich flavored.  It is an acquired taste, I
guess)
