Denis Fodor ably and entertainingly talked about Willis Conover, jazz
broadcaster on RIAS, Radio in the American Sector.
Willis Conover was probably the most recognizable and recognized American
voice during the Cold War. I saw him when he accompanied Chick Corea
and Gary Burton to a series of concerts in Moscow in 1982. He said one
word, "Hello," in his trademark voice, and the room full of Russians
immediately knew and appreciated who was speaking. RIP, Willis Conover.
