[This message has been sent to both HISTARCH and ARTIFACT. Any duplication

On behalf of the Soil Conservation Service in Oklahoma, I am writing this
request for information concerning the following stoneware:
Type: Bristol Glazed Stoneware
Logo: Blue cobalt outline of a sunflower
Location: On body of stoneware crock and jug
Association: From a Pottawatomie Allotment archaeology site dating from
the late 19th century to the 1950's
According to the SCS archaeologist in Oklahoma, sherds believed to
represent three vessels have been excavated in Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma
with the aforementioned attributes. The artifact inventory from this site
indicates that most of the domestic utilitarian items originated from
the midwest and northeast U.S. His question is if anyone knows of a
stoneware company that utilized a blue cobalt outline of a sunflower as
its logo and/or company mark.
I hasten to add that the SCS archaeologist has researched every source
for documentation of the sunflower. He is at wits end and asked me to
put this message out as an inquiry to the historical archaeology
community.
You can contact me directly or submit anything you may know to the
listserve. I will see to it that the information is forwarded to the SCS.
Thanks a lot. Berkley
