I am reminded of the saga of the Schubert Symphonies...fragments etc.
I have a set of discs which feature the "completion" of the 8th done by
Dennis Vaughan.  He limits himself to 3 movements, the third movement
based, supposedly, on a piano version of the 3rd movement.

Then there are things like the Weingartner version of the Symphony in E
major, the Gastein Symphony in C major (Joachim's orchestration of the
Grand Duo), etc.

Indeed, I do collect recordings of such oddities...like the 10th Symphony
of Beethoven; Scriabin's Universe Symphony; the Tchaikovsky 7th Symphony...

On the other hand I do find things like the completion of the Mahler
10th to be believable.  When you look at the manuscript, it was complete
to the double bar, even if he did leave substantive gaps in harmony.  It
isn't as much of a leap of faith as some other things like the attempts
to complete the Schubert.

By the way, the Atterberg Symphony, the prize winner of the centennial
award, is a decent enough work, not his best in my opinion.  It has been
recorded more than once and a Toscanini performance of it survives.
