World Premiere Performance of Meira Warshauer Symphony No. 1 Living,
Breathing Earth by Western Piedmont Symphony of North Carolina on
February 3
The World Premiere performance of Meira Warshauer's Symphony No. 1 -
'Living, Breathing Earth' will be given by the Western Piedmont Symphony,
John Gordon Ross, Conductor, on Saturday, February 3, 2007 as part of
their Masterworks III concert at the First Baptist Church, 339 Second
Avenue NW in Hickory, North Carolina.
This new work, commissioned by the Western Piedmont Symphony, the South
Carolina Philharmonic (their Premeire performance will be on March 24)
and the Dayton Philharmonic (their Premiere performances will be given
on April 26 and 28), has been described by the composer: 'the title,
Living, Breathing Earth, came to me in contemplating the image of the
rainforests as lungs of the earth. I felt our planet, alive with all
variety of creatures and plants living in symbiosis with each other,
breathing in and out, and the planet as a whole, pulsing with breath.'
Other works on the program include Mendelssohn's Midsummer Night's Dream
Overture, Op. 21 and Ferdinand David's Concertino #4 in E-flat Major
for Trombone and Orchestra, Op. 4, with guest soloist Haim Avitsur.
Tickets for the February 3 concert are $12, $25, and $35. For tickets
