If a mom has already pumped milk and stored in regular zip-lock bags is this OK? I know that the bags used for breastmilk storage state disposable sterile bags on package. These bags (sandwich bags) are not sterile also is the plastic an unacceptable type? The idea to store in special plastic ice containers with plastic cover also seams like a great one for 6 months EBM and cereal prep easy for mom pop out a cube of breast milk. I read we should look for a recycle number of greater than 5 for it to be OK for multiple use 5 or less on a container is one time use. Is this because the products of the plastic can get into the milk. Some nurseries use only glass bottles for NICU babies but is that mainly because the fat of milk won't be lost?
thanks for any info
I have searched and can't find the evidence behind these storage questions.
