It's interesting that Ms. Hahn has been receiving mixed reviews for her
current "whirlwind" tour with pianist Valentina Lisitsa.
Some examples:
Joshua Kosman, San Francisco Chronicle, October 18, Berkeley: Mixed-slightly
negative 'often restless' 'coarse performance' 'rough patches'
Laurie Niles loved her Occidental College concert
Michelle Dulak Thompson, San Francisco Classical Voice, Oct 18, Berleley:
Positive
Richad Nilsen, Arizona Republic Scottsdale, Oct 26: Good
Joseph Dalton, Times Union, Troy Savings Bank, Oct 28: Positive
Jeremy Eichler, Boston Globe: Left-handed complements: 'less effective
than it could have been', 'bland' 'chilly (or perhaps simply shy)
detachment', '...often slack or empty'
Of note is the 2.5 hour program which includes (5) complete
sonatas (maybe biting off too much?). Also interesting is that Kahn's
collaborative pianist partner, Valentina Lisitsa has been constantly
getting very positive comments (especially for her Ives), often to the
point of slightly upstaging Ms. Hahn in the reviews.
Both are obviously extremely talented virtuoso artists, but one begins
to wonder if the days of being a "wunderkind" are over for Ms.
Hahn and that she will now be held to a higher standard.
