French composer Elsa Barraine, born in Paris on the 13th of February,
1910, died last Saturday in Strasbourg (France).
Pupil of Paul Dukas and 'Prix de Rome' in 1929, she teached at the Paris
Conservatoire between 1953 and 1975. She was also very active at the
'Federation musicale populaire' (helping amateur musicians).
She was, above all, a symphonist. Among her works, which are now very
rarely performed, even in France: three symphonies, operas, ballets,
choral music, a wind quintet and a piano quintet.
