Please pass on to the Histarch listserve.
Dear Collegues,
I would like to invite you to consider partcipating in the Archaeology vs. Hollywood symposium I am pulling together for the 2005 SHA Conference in York, England.
The papers will be focussing on common lores/legends/myths/misconceptions about American history that have been perpetuated and/or created by Hollywood media and how archaeology has changed or is changing our collective memory on the American past. At this time there are presenters for misconceptions about the western saloon, drug use, the Hunley, gun culture, and African Americans. I am very interested in seeing additional papers that focus on prostitution, the Civil War, plantations, as well as other high profile events, people, or places that have been misrepresented on the television and/or movie screen.
Depending upon the authors and papers, it is very likely the session will be turned into an edited book intended for archaeologists as well as the general public.
If you have any questions or if you are interested in participating please contact me at [log in to unmask]
Thank you.
