I'm not so sure that the voice itself has much to do with the
transportation mode, etc.  I think it is more a case of the particular
singer...Pavarotti is a world unto himself, as is Domingo.  Ramey is a
major star in the opera firmament, to be sure, but he is more down to
earth, a "regular guy"...I stood behind him on a long ticket line at
the Met.
