Friends and colleagues: High technology and some dedicated professionals are 
coming to the rescue of the most important heritage sites around the world.  
Three-dimensional imagery will preserve the form if not the substance of 
threatened sites, as explained by CyArk 3d Heritage Archive Network, the 
latest video feature on our nonprofit streaming-media Web site, The 
Archaeology Channel (http://www.archaeologychannel.org/).

This film introduces CyArk, a project of the Kacyra Family Foundation that 
is preserving the world's most valued cultural heritage sites in 
three-dimensional digital form.  Realizing that World Heritage Sites 
steadily undergo decay, the CyArk team has set about to use the latest 
laser-scanning technology to collect the most accurate 3D models possible 
from these sites and store them safely in a publicly accessible archive.  
This introduction covers the threats to the world's cultural heritage, 
describes the technology used and explains the CyArk strategy.  In weeks to 
come, we will follow this video with others about CyArk applications at 
specific sites.
