Hi, Gail,

I've enjoyed the information exchange about "bushing" cattle and I
sincerely hope you're planning to publish your transcript of the
ranger's journal. It sounds like a good read!

Best wishes,

Robert Keeler

I want to thank everyone who responded to my inquiry of "Bushing
Cattle."
Several off line responses also were received.
We have come to the conclusion that bushing means cutting off some
of
the hairs on the bushy part of the end of the trail as a marking. The
part
they found on the trail must have been a batch of hair cut off so the
cow or
steer would not be counted, therefore the stockman could stay within
the
authorized permit. Interesting........
    Thanks everyone again.
