For those of you interested in the frozen soldier story, the man was
stationed at Mather Field in Sacramento so our local paper has been following the
story in detail (made headlines again today). You can search the Sacramento Bee
on line for details and past articles.
According to the paper all POW/MIA remains, no matter how old, are collected
by the military Accounting section and taken to Hickam Air Force Base in
Hawaii for identification. The BEE says they have "the worlds largest forensic
lab." They apparently have narrowed it down to a 1942 crash with four missing
soldiers. The plane was found in 1947 but no bodies were located. Today's
paper has a photo of the forensic lab and information on the condition of the body
and how they plan on making an exact id.
