Aaron Rabushka asks the musical question:

>I've heard the story that when some pianists took Eric Satie at his word
>and played through his "Vexations" 840 times that someone in the audience
>actually shouted "Encore!" Does anybody here know if one was played?

The world premiere of vexations took place at the Pocket Theater in NYC
in September of 1962. As Time Magazine described it, "six masochists sat
through the entire performance. At the end one sadomasochist shouted
"Encore." As that sadomasochist, I can assure you that no encore was
played.
