John Bell Young writes about Aruthur Loesser:

>All for now, though someone mentioned that Arthru Loesser was
>underestimated. I quite agree; he was a marvelous pianist

This name rang a tiny tiny bell with me, and after a little thought I went
to my bookshelf and pulled down a volume I've never read: "Men, Women, and
Pianos: A Social History" by Arthur Loesser (Simon and Schuster, 1954).
Sure enough, the jacket blurb identifies Loesser as an "internatially known
concert pianist."

The book has an introduction by no less than Jacques Barzun, which may be
why I plucked it from a used bin God only knows how long ago. The work is
no trifle: 600 pages, with an extensive bibliography and index. Is it
worth reading?
