The answer to your question really depends on your level of familiarity
with the works. All the performances are certainly adequAte for one just
becoming acquainted with this music. For $3 you simply can't go wrong on
the SS. Get to know the 2nd PC (the best of the lot), then go on to #4
and 5. Then, if you really like it, you can get e.g. the Rubinstein in
#2. If you want a complete set (#1 and 3 are lightweight) consider the
Previn/Collard set or the Darre, which is of historical value, well played,
but with mediocre sound quality. For the Brahms, you won't find many Mehta
fans in this group, and its no surprise. But if you don't already know
these sym. its a decent way to get started for the price.
