Megan,

We have had good success using R. Bruce Hoadley's book Identifying Wood:
Accurate results with simple tools on identifying large pieces of wood like
you would be getting from shipwrecks.

Subject: Wood Sample Lab? - clarification

Greetings again,

Sorry about my post; I realize I left off some important information!

Can anyone suggest a company to send wood samples to for species
identification?

These would be wood (not charcoal) samples from a partially-submerged
shipwreck in New Jersey.

Many thanks,
Megan Springate.
