Hi Milt
I notice Thornes (GB) have stopped selling PDB crystals. There's a
small paragraph in this year's catalogue:
"recent research has shown this product poses a contamination risk to
beeswax and honey. PDB is readily soluble in beeswax and is toxic to
bees in high concentrations".
That being said I can't say I've noticed any marked adverse affect in my
bees over the years (used in the traditional fashion for over wintering
my empty supers and a good airing in the Spring).
I did go overboard with a box of wax that was to be melted down as a
colony of moths had set up residence. I can still smell the PDB in the
wax 'ingots' months later.
Thornes are now selling Sulphur strips as an alternative to PDB.
If I was you I'd use the honey for the bees and forget about human
consumption.
Regards
Tony Bloor
