Congratulations on conducting one of the great hands-on activities. The
comments you have got are great - I'd add that some batteries have
poisonous substances, and lead acid batteries have sulfuric acid in them,
sometimes in a gel form. But the old simple, non-alkaline zinc-chloride
ones are OK - though not vastly interesting.
The safety glasses and hand washing are essential.
