Hi Amanda,
We have a one-day summer camp "Forensic Fun" for ages 8 to 11 where we
explore different techniques and tests and then use them to investigate
a "crime" at the museum. This has been running for two years and is a
popular program.
We run week-long science events with changing themes, and our summer
2005 theme was CSI: Lawrence (http://www.nhm.ku.edu/Hdocs/PECSI.html).
These events are a drop-in format and we have a variety of
demonstrations and activities for visitors, and incorporate our exhibits
into the theme (in this case we staged crime scenes at several
exhibits). Topics for this event included skeletal identification, DNA
fingerprinting, blood and hair identification, fingerprints, crime scene
insects, chromatography, shoeprints and more. This event was very
popular and well received by all visitors. We developed all the
materials ourselves.
Cheers,
Teresa
