Alan Friedman, the Director of the NY Hall of Science, did two
evaluation studies of audio tours, funded by NSF. I'm sure he will
be glad to forward you the results of that research. Please contact
me off-list for his email address.
Nobody uses CD's for audio tours anymore, it is *so* 1990's. ;^)
There are a lot of options to choose from in the solid state audio
tour market, from "soup to nuts" providers like Antenna and
Acoustiguide, to equipment sellers like JVC and several others. In
the case of the former, you contract with them to produce the audio
tour and sell or lease you the equipment. In the case of the latter,
you produce and structure the audio tour yourself, and the vendor
provides software and hardware that enables you to structure the
audio tour as you wish. I have some information on the various
options if you are interested. Again, please contact me off list as
I am reluctant to get into my opinions about various vendors, pro or
con, on a public listserv.
