Do we know of any actual red points, or is this all based on hearsay?
As far as I know, it was heresay between the late Paul H. Ezell and three
colleagues in the bar at the 1968 SHA Conference in Tucson, Arizona. They all
claimed to have seen red glass flakes and at least one said he saw red
projectile points. Ezell alleged they existed.
For those of you who did not know Ezell, he was chair of the Department of
Anthropology, San Diego State University and a Ph.D. graduate of the University
of Arizona. His dissertation had something to do with historical work in
correlation with ethnographic tribal use of southern Arizona and he served with
the Border Patrol for at least a dozen years down there. He saw a lot of
flaked glass during his 12-years of field classes at the Royal Presidio de San
Diego, although probably not much was red glass.
