During a 1957 government business trip to Japan, the head of a traditional  
family presented a ceramic mask attached to a shingle to my father to keep evil 
 spirits from our house. I hung it over the kitchen for the past 30-years. It 
 fell and shattered this afternoon. Uh-oh.
