Like Indian tea it was shipped in big boxes or chests- which in the UK
have long been re-used by furniture removers. These are depicted in art-

Tea tins or caddies were used in household for storage. Certainly China
makes tea tins today and enamelled ones were made for export as far back
as c18. Y0u should find loads by searching on caddy or caddies as these
are collectable.
