No!  Pop came in bottles.  Soda still comes in yellow boxes with an 
arm and hammer on the side.
One exception is the nasty flavorless stuff you add to scotch.  When 
copy editor for Historical Archaeology I changed pop and soda to 
"soda pop" to try to keep more researchers happy.

As a kid in Mandan we got our steelies from friendly mechanics at the 
local NPRR roundhouse.
