I am pleased to announce that the Florida Public Archaeology Network is
fully funded through the University of West Florida. The funds are recurring
and will be distributed to the new centers as they are established
throughout Florida. There has been a little confusion because of a veto of a
$225,000 line item in the state budget for listed for UWF Archaeology
Institute. This was a special project request for funds to remodel a
historic building downtown to be the Coordinating Center for the Network. We
have a Plan "B" and we are working on it. We are searching for a Director
for the Network at this time, and after July 1, we will begin establishing
the Coordinating Center staff and up to three charter Public Archaeology
Centers in 2005-06. For more information about the Florida Public
