Mid to Senior Career Level Position Opening
DIRECTOR of the NEW FLORIDA PUBLIC ARCHAEOLOGY NETWORK
UNIVERSITY OF WEST FLORIDA, PENSACOLA
UPDATE:
2005 FLORIDA LEGISLATURE HAS ADDED THE FUNDS FOR THIS PROGRAM INTO THE
PERMANENT RECURRING BASE OF UWF'S ANNUAL BUDGET.
APPLICATIONS RECEIVED BY MAY 18TH WILL GET THE FIRST REVIEW BY COMMITTEE ON
MAY 26TH.
Position Responsibilities:
* Head the Coordinating Office of the Network in Pensacola, FL
* Manage up to eight public archaeology centers throughout the state
in close coordination with the State Archaeologist at the Florida Division
of Historical Resources
* Develop the program during its first several years, working with a
Board of Directors and partners to identify host institutions and develop
regional centers, contract agreements, and evaluation procedures
* Create and implement public archaeology programs meeting regional
needs
* Frequent travel throughout Florida
Requirements:
* Middle to senior career level with significant and progressively
responsible experience in the following areas
o Professional archaeology (e.g. principal investigator level,
publications)
o Public archaeology outreach
o Administration of public oriented programs
o Proven ability to work with the general public as well as local
agencies and non-profits in non-academic settings
o Education: Graduate degree in Anthropology/Archaeology or a closely
related field, Ph.D. is preferred
o Experience: At least five years as a professional archaeologist with
three years as a Principal Investigator of archaeological projects and
experience in public program administration
Salary: commensurate with experience
