Talk about idiosyncratic behavior: While not a floor, I recall during an oral
history that a man living on Palomar Mountain in the 1920s said his family
discarded trash in hollows in trees when out working in the forest. There were a
number of trees that suffered the effects of old fires and had hollows that
served as local trash cans, but were never emptied. While taking down this
information, I never field verified that report. I expect spaces between natural
boulders would serve the same purpose.
