Follow the links on the lower left of the website. Daily project log
updates are posted, along with still images; video updates will be
posted every other day during the eighteen-day mission.
The Deep Wrecks Project is a multidisciplinary effort to document seven
World War II-era shipwrecks in the northern Gulf of Mexico. The project
focuses on the biological, ecological and historical role played by each
of the seven wrecks being examined. All the wrecks date from 1942-44,
and range in depth from 280 to 6,500 feet. Historical background on each
of the ships, biographical sketches of project scientists and related
materials are currently available online. Multidisciplinary K-12
curriculum modules will be developed based on the project, and will also
be made available on the project website in the fall.
