The big issue out here in the Far Soutwest has been to force everyone to use
1/8-inch mesh screens, not so much the kind of screen. The problem with the
Chinese galvanized screen is that a rock pitched in a shovel full of dirt can
rip right through. I am not so sure 1/8-inch is needed on historic sites, but
all the agencies demand uniformity and argue strenuously that 1/8-inch is the
way to go on prehistoric sites. Personally, I can see shifting down to 1/16 or
1/32 window screen when features are found (and I have done so), but not sure
it is worth the effort when not dealing with features or rich strata. Still, no
one is demanding stainless steel screens of yet.
